Having a schedule and routine is so important. As wives and mothers, we have so much on our plates on a daily basis. Without some careful planning and a routine, we could often find ourselves at the end of every day wondering where did the day go and frustrated that we did not get anything we needed to do accomplish. Now understand that no amount of planning can totally eliminate that from happing every once in a while, sorry girl. Yet, if you find yourself feeling that way more often than not, then it’s time for some changes. Tidying up your routine is just as important as tidying up your home. While tidying up my home, I discovered 3 ways that can help you tidy up your routine as well.
1) Embrace The Season You Are In
I remember when my hubby, Eric, and I had just got married. We were always on the go. If we were not working, we were always going some place or trying something new. Then when our oldest daughter was born, we slowed down a little, but were still on the go a lot. She was such an easygoing baby that we could take her pretty much anywhere and we did. Then when our twins were born, we slowed down a lot because it was not easy to be on the go with a toddler and two infants. Now that our girls are older, we are on the go a lot more, but for totally different reasons.
Now instead of running around doing things that are focused on just us, we do things focused on our family. Making these adjustments has not always been easy. Yet learning to embrace the changes were necessary based on the season we are in have made it easier.
We all go through seasons in life when our focus needs to be on one area more than another. During those times we need to make sure that our routines are reflecting the season we are in, not the former. Just like we need to go through our closets and find those clothes that no longer fit our bodies or our lifestyle, we need to do the same thing with things in our routine.
2) Embrace The Value of Your Time
Your time is so valuable. Time is one of those things that once it’s gone it’s gone, so we should use it wisely.
So taking a close look at how you spend your time is also important when seeking to tidy up your routine. One of the best ways I have found to make sure I am using my time wisely is with time blocking. Making sure you are using all your time wisely and doing things that are important to you is a great way to tidy up your routine. If you have never tried time blocking, haven’t done it in a while, or just want a cute printable to get you started, just head here.
3) Embrace Today
Today is today for a reason, so make it count.
Since we are not guaranteed tomorrow, we have to embrace today. As a person who loves to plan, I’ve often found myself planning so much for tomorrow that I was not taking the time to enjoy today. So as we continue to tidy up our routines, let’s make sure we are taking the time to enjoy life every day. When was the last time you had pajama day with your kids? When was the last time you snuggled up on your couch to read a good book? Or when was the last time you and your hubby had a date night?
It is so easy for us to get caught up in our routines that we forget to make sure our routines are actually working for us. So taking the time to tidy up your routine is so important. Embracing the season you are in, embracing the value of your time, and embracing today are 3 simple ways to help you do just that.
I’d love to hear one way you can tidy up your routine in the comments!
